Celebrity Style Inspiration for Any Age: 40s

Another installment of Celebrity Style Inspiration is here! Previously, we've looked at celebrities in their teens (Elle Fanning, Chloë Grace Moretz, and Bella Thorne), 20s (Selena Gomez, Emilia Clarke, and Emma Roberts), and 30s (Krysten Ritter, Rose Byrne, and Meghan Markle). In today's post, we'll look at celebrities in their 40s: Lucy Liu, Sofía Vergara, and Tyra Banks.

Lucy Liu
Lucy Liu is one of the first Asian American actors I remember seeing on TV, and I'm so excited that she's back in the limelight. Her Joan Watson on Elementary is one of my favorite characters, not just because of the gender swap but also because she's a female Asian character who isn't a sidekick even though canon John Watson plays the sidekick role.

Sofía Vergara
The mere mention of Sofía Vergara's name brings to mind the image of Modern Family's Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, and although Gloria is also one of my favorite characters, I hate that the role has reduced her into the "loud and feisty Latina who butchers the English language." I hate it so much that I used her as a prime example in a sociolinguistics paper I wrote about language and identity. The basic premise is that multilingual celebrities portray themselves differently in their different language environments. If you Google Sofía Vergara in English, interview videos pop up about her mispronouncing shit or being a spicy Latina, but try Googling her in Spanish. She suddenly becomes a poised, ex-TV host who can speak on important issues.

Tyra Banks
Tyra Banks is one of the first celebrities who made teenage me think, "Wow, I want to be just like her when I grow up," because it was America's Next Top Model where I first saw her, and she was always looking gorgeous af. Plus, her job was literally making dreams come true, and she was always coaching women and inspiring them and, despite the competition that can sometimes get toxic, she showed me how rewarding it can be when women support one another.

Celebrity Style Inspiration for Any Age: 30s

I finally got around to writing the third installment in the Celebrity Style Inspiration for Any Age series. I published the first post in January 2015 with a plan to publish one post per month for six months (teenage celebrities to celebrities in their 60s). Unfortunately, life got in the way, and the second installment didn't go up until April 2015. After that, life really got in the way, and I went into semi-hiatus.

Now that I'm more or less back in the game, I thought it's about time for this post to go up. It has been a year since the last one, after all. Also, back then, I had a different lineup of celebrities I wanted to feature (Jessica Alba, Nicole Scherzinger, and Olivia Wilde), but in the year since I drafted this post, other celebrities fell into my radar, so meet the new lineup: Krysten Ritter, Rose Byrne, and Meghan Markle.

Krysten Ritter

I have been slowly growing into a Marvel fangirl* ever since I started watching Agents of SHIELD, so needless to say, I finished Jessica Jones and am anxiously awaiting The Defenders. I know I've seen Krysten Ritter in other movies and shows before this because I recognized her immediately when I looked into Jessica Jones, but I just can't remember from where. Either way, Krysten Ritter seems like a super fun, sarcastic chick, and I'm really glad more and more people are recognizing her and her work.

*I'd like to point out that I'm mostly a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe because I'm not a comic book person, so I never got into the Marvel comics, although I occasionally look them up to help me make sense of the MCU.

Here's a look inspired by Krysten Ritter's Spring street style:

Rose Byrne

I first saw Rose Byrne when I watched Insidious (five years too late, btw), and I was immediately drawn to her. After that, I started seeing her in a bunch of rom-coms (which I also always end up watching waaay after everyone else) and sci-fi and thrillers. Personally, I think this Australian woman is great in any genre. Besides that, she just seems like a really laid-back person who'd be great to hang out with.

Meghan Markle

Oh, Meghan Markle. I will forever see her as Rachel Zane, the strongheaded paralegal on Suits who will definitely hunt you down if you try to mess with her. I looked her up on IMDb, and she's apparently been in 90210 (the 2008 "sequel") and Horrible Bosses, but I don't remember her. From the first time I saw her on Suits, she instantly became my woman crush (Step aside, Eva Longoria). She's a fellow blogger, btw, on The Tig.

Celebrity Style Inspiration for Any Age: 20s

In January, I started the Celebrity Style Inspiration for Any Age series where I research inspiring celebrity street style and curate similar pieces for you to try out for yourself.

For this second installment, we will be taking a look at the street style of celebrities in their 20s.

{ Selena Gomez }

Selena Gomez, 22, is an American singer and actress who began her career as an extra in Spy Kids 3D, but she didn't really appear on many radars until she portrayed Alex on Disney's Wizards of Waverly Place which is also where I first remember seeing her.

I find Selena inspiring because she just seems so laid-back and down-to-earth despite her overwhelming fame. She doesn't let the limelight get to her head, and she sees herself as an ordinary girl just like any other. I honestly find her to be a great role model to not only teenagers who look up to her but also to the older generation who have started losing their faith in my generation.

The casual outfit worn by her in the above picture really reflects what I assume is an outgoing and approachable nature. Here's how you can get the look:

Celebrity Style Inspiration for Any Age: Teens

I have always been a fan of celebrity style. I believe that how you present yourself tells the world something about you, and that holds true for celebrities too. Granted, most of them have personal stylists who pick out their closets for them, but they all still have a set style that channels their personalities.

Either way, celebrities can be a source of inspiration when it comes to fashion, and I have decided that, since this is a new year, a new chance to refresh our wardrobes, I want to start this series to showcase extra fashionable celebrities and how we can take fashion cues from them regardless of age.

In this first installment, we will be looking at teenage celebrities for readers aged 13 to 19.
