Fall Beauty Trends

Hello, world.

The 22nd marked the official start of Fall, and we all know that the most exciting part about the start of every season is the change in trends. I have already swapped out my clothes, my makeup, and my fragrances, but I thought that Id wait until it was official before I produce a blog post. Besides, with the weather being so temperamental, it could still be warm enough for Summer trends in other places.

There are obviously more trends than is included in this list, but I would only be covering my three favorites: bright lips, smokey eyes, and coordinated colors.

{ Bright Lips }

Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Color | $39
Nars Jungle Red Lipstick | $29
Anthropologie Albeit Lipstick | $18

You may remember this that bright lips were around in the summer as well, but the key difference in transitioning this look into the fall is to think: dark bright. Yes, I do realize that that is an oxymoron, but it was the only way to get my point across. The summer was all about neon lipstick, but "bright" in the fall is better described as "standout." You want your lips to stand out, and that doesnt necessarily mean neon.

{ Smokey Eyes }

Lord and Berry Couture Kohl Kajal Eye Pencil in Black | $17
Victorias Secret Eye Shadow Duo | $15
Ilia Shadow of a Doubt Mascara | $29

I am super stoked that this trend is back! When the fresh faced look was all the rage last season, I felt out of my element without my dark eyeshadow. Please do keep in mind that it is still a no no to walk around campus looking like Taylor Momsen. It may be acceptable for a night out, but you would still need to keep your smokey eyes subtle during the day. I rely heavily on my trusty greys and silvers.

{ Coordinated Colors }

By Terry Power Eye Shadow in Lavender Muffin | $40
Sisley Phyto-Kohl Perfect Eyeliner in Purple | $51
Maybelline New York Color Show Nail Lacquer in Purple Gem | $5

This may sound like a backward trend, but coordinated colors are making its way back into the mainstream. By keeping it subtle, you can still look classy. I picked a purple palette because purple has always been a color that I want to experiment with. It isnt my favorite color, but I would still want to give it a try. If I ever do, I would probably start with a purple dress paired with purple eyeliner.

Which one of these is your favorite? Are you sporting a trend that wasnt mentioned? If you leave a link in the comments section, I would love to check it out!

Back to School Beauty Essentials

Hello, world.

It is always exciting to stock up on products, and it is even more exciting when you have a reason to do so! When it comes to back to school shopping, you usually buy notebooks, pens, and folders, but I have compiled a list of items that you should include in your shopping list: gel masks, dry shampoo, and blemish busters.

{ Gel Masks }

Nars Aqua Gel Luminous Mask | $39
Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask | $45
Decleor Harmonie Calm Comforting Milky Gel-Cream Mask | $44

Gel masks are known to be great at hydrating and soothing skin. With the weather being so temperamental, it is wreaking havoc on my skin, and gel masks can be your savior if youre feeling the same way I am.

{ Dry Shampoo }

Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk | $18
Oscar Blandi Pronto Invisible Dry Shampoo Spray | $25
Batiste Dry Shampoo XXL Volume | $6

If you have morning classes like I do, and you hate waking up early to wash your hair, dry shampoo will be your best friend. On days when you just dont feel like taking the time to wait for your hair to air dry like I like to do, a few spritz of dry shampoo will get you fresh enough for the day at least.

{ Blemish Busters }

The Body Shop Tea Tree Blemish Gel | $9
Philosophy Clear Days Ahead Blemish Spot Reliever | $18
The Organic Pharmacy Blemish Gel | $28

Stress is a very big part of school especially when Finals Week draws near. Dont settle for looking haggard because if you look good, you feel good, and it makes stress easier to cope with. So, dont settle for a spotty face when these products can get you on your way to looking better.

Do you use any of these products? What did you think?

A Short Guide to Highlighting and Contouring

Hello, world.

This post is for Week Eight of the Alphabet Challenge.

The biggest complication that I ran into when I first started wearing full makeup is highlighting and contouring. I would read many a blog post and watch many a video tutorial, but I could never seem to get it right no matter how much experimentation I did. It is thus safe to say that my mind was blown when I found out that highlighting and contouring varies according to face shape.

I dont know why I never thought of this since most makeup techniques are influenced by face shape. The tutorials that I followed were pretty standard: contour under your cheekbones and highlight above your cheekbones. It always ended up looking strange, and I now know why. All this while, I was highlighting and contouring according to the round face shape when I have a square face.

This illustration should give you a better idea. The brown shows where you should contour, the white shows the highlight, and the pink shows the blush. As you can see, I was doing mine completely wrong.

I hope that this illustration helps you out as much as it has helped me out!

My September Closet

Hello, world.

I was recently made aware that ExtraExtravagant is usually referred to as a fashion blog. This came as a surprise to me simply because it started out as a beauty blog. I want to apologize to my readers if the amount of fashion posts that Ive been having is overwhelming; Ive just been more inspired to write fashion posts these days.

In lieu of that, this will be a lookbook post for the month of September, and it will revolve around three pieces: a coral blazer, a denim top, and a crop sweater.

{ The Coral Blazer }

Armani Jeans Coral Fitted Tweed Jacket | $170
Reiss Eden Silk Trim Tank | $130
River Island Orange Skinny Biker Trousers | $46
Giuseppe Zanotti Metallic Detail Sandal | $1,263

I love the versatility of a blazer; it can be dressed up for a corporate setting and dressed down for a casual daytime look. I picked the colors coral and orange because they play up the outfit for a fun and girly look. To tone it down a little, I paired them with a white tank and white heels.

{ The Denim Top }

Forever 21 Button Pocket Chambray Shirt | $30
Topshop Petite Bleached Denim Leggings | $30
Aeropostale Studded Moto Bootie | $43
Somerset by Alice Temperley Begonia Hobo Handbag in Black | $365

You can never go wrong with denim on denim. I picked denim leggings to go with the top instead of denim jeans to soften the look a little. I love an oxymoronic style, which is why I added the studded boots and the black purse to clash with the feminine feel of the outfit.

{ The Crop Sweater }

Monki Verona Sweater | $33
Boohoo Jules Leather Look Skater Skirt | $30
Jeffrey Campbell Lita Suede Ankle Boots | $195
K. Bell The Nomad Over the Knee Socks in Black | $10

I cannot begin to express how much I love this sweater. If I wasnt on the 30 Day No Buy Challenge, I wouldve snapped it up once I laid eyes on it. Fall may not be the ideal season for crop tops anymore, but a crop sweater transcends seasons in my opinion. I paired this sweater with the Boohoo Jules Leather Look Skater Skirt (How amazing is the music and alliteration in this name, btw) and Jeffrey Campbell shoes for a rocker chic vibe. Of course, I had to put everything together with some knee-high socks.

Do you have a lookbook for this month? If you leave a link in the comments section, I would love to check it out!
