Summer Style Ideas by Bloggers: How to Style Summer Dresses

Last week, we discussed how to style summer rompers, jumpsuits, and pants. This week, with the help of more fashion bloggers, we will talk about styling summer dresses.

I love wearing dresses in the summer because, in the words of CoverGirl, they're easy, breezy, beautiful. Nothing's worse than trying to squeeze into skinny jeans or yoga pants when the air is humid af, so dresses are the way to go, but there are so many choices when it comes to summer dresses!

Tomi and Kim will show us how they style the trendiest print of the season: lemon print! Amanda, Jordan, Cara, and Danai styled the much-loved floral print. Hannah and Erica took the minimalist route with simpler prints, and Jane amped it up with a sheer summer dress.

Let's see how they did it!

Tomi is a 23-year-old MBA student at Clemson University who can definitely be characterized as your stereotypical girly-girl. She enjoys exploring all aspects of fashion, beauty, and pop culture. She was inspired to start GoodTomiCha when she realized that she can combine her love of writing and her personal style.

Tomi's dress makes use of many current fashion trends: cutout, tie-front, ruffles, and, of course, lemon print. She styled it very simply with silver jewelry and strappy black sandals so that the dress remains the focus of the outfit.

Kim is a Korean-American hustler living in the DMV area, working as hard as possible all day every day to build the life of her dreams. She's currently getting her DMA in piano performance and a second master's in musicology. By day, she teaches piano at Johns Hopkins University, and by night, she blogs full-time and works as a freelance social media consultant. Kim started Sensible Stylista back in 2011, and she's been going strong ever since. She prides herself on being a smart shopper who knows when to save and when to splurge, so if you're looking to live a glam life on a budget, make sure to follow along.

Kim's dress also features on-trend accents. It's an off-shoulder, tie-front dress in a lemon print, and she also styled it with simple accessories--a minimalistic mint purse and white block-heel sandals--to keep the dress as the focal point of the outfit.

Affordable by Amanda is a fashion and lifestyle blog located in beautiful, sunny St. Petersburg, Florida. Having grown up by the beach, Amanda always mixes her budget-friendly fashion finds to combine her love of the beach and city life. She often looks for trends that can be purchased for under $100 to share with her friends and followers. For the summer, she has been wearing a lot of yellow. Bright yellow floral maxi dresses with fun accessories is exactly how she dresses for a hot summer day.

Although not in a lemon print, Amanda's dress is a summery, buttery yellow with a cutout back. Also keeping her accessories to a minimum, she styled her dress with a black crossbody and matching hat and wedges for a bit of southern charm.

Jordan is a 24-year-old Los Angeles, CA-based blogger who started The Teacup of Style as a way to express her creativity and inner fashionista. She just wrapped up her first year as a third-grade teacher, and she is excited for summer endeavors ahead. The Teacup of Style is proof that sometimes, the busiest of people make for the best fashionistas.

Jordan's bright, white, floral-print outfit features an off-shoulder dress with a tiered hem; it's a very flowy, summery look, and she paired it with some nude strappy heels.

Never Skip Brunch launched in 2016 as a space for women looking to become confident in who they are, fearless with their style, and to define their unique confidence. As an influencer, Cara has worked with brands like H&M, Kendra Scott, and Alba Botanica and has been featured in publications like StyleWatch. Southern-raised and living in Denver, Cara is tequila-loving, color- and prints-obsessed, and passionate about helping others build a lived-in life they love.

Cara's summer dress has a simpler cut and silhouette. It's more of what comes to mind for most people when you mention summer dresses. Cara's has a whimsical floral print, and she paired it with nude strappy heels as well.

Danai, the blogger behind Living, Learning, Eating, is a 20-something storyteller living between Boston and NYC. She works in content marketing, writing, blogging, and acting (with the occasional bit of commercial and beauty modeling in there, left over from her more serious modeling days), and whenever she's not dreaming up a story or a way to tell a company's story, she's looking for new foods or recipes to try. Though she writes pretty much everything, her writing passions are children's and middle grade novels. In addition to books, she loves fashion, baking/cooking/trying yummy food, traveling, biology, international relations, and having new adventures!

I would describe Danai's outfit as summer elegant because it's definitely a summery outfit with the off-shoulder and the sheer, chiffon layers, but styling it with a loose studded choker gives the whole look an extra edge, and pairing it with strappy flats gives the outfit a more casual, relaxed look.

Hannah, the blogger behind The Kraus House, was born in Plant City, Florida, the strawberry capital of the U.S. Therefore, she loves everything pink, red, and white! Her family moved to Tennessee when she was ten, and she's been there since. She's a recent graduate of the University of Tennessee and received a bachelor's in architecture in August 2017. The two loves of her life, besides her family, are her sweet pup Sofie and her handsome fiancé Nathan.

Moving on to simpler prints, Hannah's dress has an uncluttered palm tree leaf print. Because the cut is more of a t-shirt dress, Hannah wearing it with metallic jewelry, a chic purse, and pointed-toe flats gives the outfit a business casual look.

Erica is an extra petite fashion and lifestyle blogger based on the east coast. What the Clique focuses on petite fashion, affordable style, and bargain shopping because you don't have to spend a million bucks to look it.

Erica also styled a t-shirt dress, and hers has horizontal stripes, a v-neck collar, and cuffed sleeves. The straw hat and sunglasses makes this a very beach-ready look.

Jane is a freelance writer from RVA and the blogger behind Lilly Rose. She loves fashion, food, makeup, and skincare. For her, life is about making memories, so don't be afraid to play with color and pet all the fluffy puppies (with permission from their owners)!

Last but not least, Jane took a sheer summer dress and amped up her summer outfit by wearing the dress over a casual t-shirt-and-denim-shorts ensemble. What elevates the outfit, though, are the red-rimmed sunglasses, metal-accent belt, and the strappy platform heels.

To wrap things up, it seems from Tomi, Kim, Amanda, Jordan, Cara, Danai, Hannah, Erica, and Jane's outfits that this summer, printed dresses are very much on trend, and when styling them, you'd want to avoid anything that'd try to steal the spotlight from the dress. Use minimal accessories, and opt for nude strappy shoes.

That is all for this post, but don't forget to check out last week's post on how fashion bloggers style summer rompers, jumpsuits, and pants, and be sure to come back next Tuesday for the next Summer Style Ideas by Bloggers part about how fashion bloggers style summer skirts.
